Sound of Music - Exploring the Concerto Collection

While all of our collections are unique, we're often asked for an example of what wines were included in a past collection. Here, we'll discuss a few of the wines recently curated for a Concerto Collection box.

The Rothschild family winemaking traditions have existed since 1868, when James de Rothschild acquired the Château Lafite estate and then became  the Château Mouton Rothschild and Château Lafite-Rothschild. Today the "Baron Edmond Rothschild" company is under the control of the Baron's son - Benjamin, who, like his father, pursues a single goal: "to create high quality wines worldwide". This classic Saint-Emilion has a Merlot and Cabernet sauvignon base that will show on the nose with beautiful clay and limestone, full body and after breathing for around 2 hours it opens up to black currants, baked plums, chocolate and fresh mint. Very perfumed with dried violet and lavender and a big big finish of cedar and walnut.

Made By Screaming Eagle, Jean Phillips and Robert Mondavi in 2018 to support the Napa wineries affected by wildfires, this is the best of the best Napa can deliver. Only 200 cs of this wine were produced. A deep ruby-purple  aroma of black raspberry, cassis, rose petals, sandalwood, and bitter chocolate. Super elegant and full bodied. notes of toast and wet cobblestone as well as black fruit, spice and leather, a lot of thyme and a little rosemary with a distinct blood orange finish.

Made in the iconic Chateau Rayas. The Reynaud family (who still manages Rayas today) bought the property in 1880. When Emmanuel Reynaud inherited the estate, He decided to hire Jean Paul Clement to produce his wine, which resulted in a fantastic partnership. This super special bottle is an absolute masterpiece from a historic harvest. The color is lively ruby, the aromas complex and very detailed with a lot of spicy notes of black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon. It is also very fruity with notes of raspberry, blackberry, cherry, strawberry and a blueberry finish with extraordinary elegance, This is the rayas signature.

This beautiful Cabernet can only be found in exclusive restaurants like The French Laundry and Smyth and the Loyalist and other purchases are only by allocation only for members. This is in the top 1% of the world's wine earning two platinum medals and a 99pts rating. Very deep dark color. You will be able to find Fig Jam, caramel, pecans, raspberry and chocolate even though it is not sweet. Super smooth, dry palate, good acidity. You will also find some spicy notes of black pepper, leather and eucalyptus. Definitely decant for 2 hours to enjoy.

It is definitely a mind blowing wine when you feel the dijon mustard and the apple at the same time, crushed berries, baked berry, pie crust, ginger, cedar, lavender, clove, and nutmeg.

An amazing Bordeaux blend made with Merlot, Cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon, was made in the Knollwood Vineyard in the AVA wich is now known for its microclimate, very similar to Saint-Emilion...Cool mornings and warm afternoons help the grape to get to its perfect condition. Picked by hand  and mixed by hand we get the perfect blend. full-bodied wine distinguished by plump dark fruit, velvety tannins, and toasty baking spice notes from extensive oak barrel aging.This is a beautifully complex, tasting of plum and dark cherry, with spices like white pepper and dried herb. It is an amazing rendition of  these varietals  from the Oak Knoll District. The tannins are moderate, and the fruit  is deep. It finishes big and long  with dark  fruit.
